Whatever makes up this difficult to define quality, I am not sure Bradley Cooper, People Magazine's choice for their 2011 Sexiest Man Alive, fits the bill. Then again, sexy is subjective.
So this has me wondering, how do we decide who is really sexy? As a middle aged woman, my view on sexy has evolved. Sure, nice pecs and tight abs are awesome, but what's even sexier is one's ability to exude a blend of self-confidence, charm, humility and a great sense of humor. The exterior may be what our eyes see first, but after that wears off, what's underneath must sustain the interest of the beholder.
For me, Bradley Cooper doesn't cut it. Sure he's as cute as a box of puppies, and a momma's boy, but when I look at Bradley Cooper (and even worse, the women he chooses to date for approximately 15 seconds at a time), he is not a man who exudes sexy. Although, I bet he'd be an awesome guy to go shoe-shopping with. I'll let you ponder that one.
Without further ado, here's my very short list of Hollywood's Sexiest Men.
Jensen Ackles, 33, aka, Dean Winchester, hunter of supernatural beings on CW's hit show Supernatural. There is a real manliness Jensen exudes and it's not just his tough guy character, but also his real-life persona. His sense of comedic timing and the ability to conjure a range of complex emotions, breathes life into what could be a cartoonish character in someone else's hands. Frankly, the guy's a great actor and I am shocked he hasn't crossed over into major films. I suspect he's pacing himself!
Jensen, who is certainly as beautiful as the Greek god Adonis, is also a low-key guy who married his girlfriend of 3 years, Danneel Harris in 2010. Nothing says sexy like monogamy and there's something to be said for a famous, hot guy settling down with ONE woman. Sigh, Jensen, you are the sexiest man alive!
Stephen Moyer, 42, aka vampire Bill on HBO's hit series True Blood. There is A LOT of hotness to choose from on True Blood and I mean a lot. You could just as easily pick Alexander Skarsgard who plays Viking vampire Eric Northman, or Joe Manganiello the uber hot werewolf Alcide Herveaux, and no one would question you. But British born actor Stephen Moyer is who fires my chassis.
Moyer brings a certain earned wisdom that only comes with age to his role as the Southern gentleman vampire with a conscience. The smoldering glances, and the way he fits in his finely tailored suits. When I think of sexy vampires -- which I do a lot -- I think of Moyer's Vampire Bill.
Added bonus, he married the amazing Anna Paquin, who has the pleasure of playing his on and off screen true love!
Moving on from the small screen to the silver screen, I would be remiss to not mention my tried and true hotness, Danish-American actor Viggo Mortensen. Viggo, 53, is ever so dreamy. I first noticed Mortensen as the love interest opposite Diane Lane in Walk on The Moon, I was struck by a genuine sense of vulnerability that comes through in his acting. Mortensen took a very interesting, somewhat unorthodox path to acting, and spent time working a variety of odd jobs while traveling in Europe before he found his true calling. In my humble opinion, no other actor could have embodied the heroic characteristics needed to pull off Aragorn/Strider in Peter Jackson's brilliant Lord of the Rings Trilogy like Mortensen. Also of note: Mortensen makes angry sex seem like the hottest thing ever in A History of Violence.
One odd thing I find most sexy about Viggo is his unique choice in partners. Viggo was married to Exene Cervenka, of L.A. punk band X for 11 years, and the two have a son together, Henry. Not to be shallow here, but Exene isn't a classic beauty, which shows he values women for something other than outer beauty. That's pretty damn awesome if you ask me! Plus, he's a poet... perfect.
There you have it, my top three hottest men in Hollywood. So, who's on your list?
