When news broke on May 9 that Arnold Schwarzenegger and his wife of 25 years, Maria Shriver, had separated, there were rumors that "infidelity" and "egotism" were at the heart of their breakup. However, nothing specific had been pinpointed as the exact cause. Well, today all speculation can be ended. Arnold admitted to impregnating a household staffer ten years ago:
"After leaving the governor's office I told my wife about this event, which occurred over a decade ago.I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family. There are no excuses and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused. I have apologized to Maria, my children and my family. I am truly sorry.I ask that the media respect my wife and children through this extremely difficult time. While I deserve your attention and criticism, my family does not. "
The LA Times broke the story about the affair and have stated they will not publish the name of the staffer or her child. The former staffer, who states she left her position earlier this year on "good terms," spoke with the Times on Monday prior to Schwarzenegger releasing his statement about the "event."
According to the report, the former governor took financial responsibility for the illegitimate child from the beginning, but apparently waited ten years to let his wife know. Obviously they have separate checking accounts. While Schwarzenegger has released a number of statements on the separation, Shriver has remained quiet. Friends however, have stated she's been unhappy in her marriage for years. Really?
A glaring example of Schwarzenegger's history of abusing his wife's loyalty occurred during his 2003 California bid for governor. It was Shriver who publicly defended her movie star husband when more than a dozen women came forward stating he'd groped them over the years. Initially Arnold tried to deny this, but then later apologized - something he's clearly becoming good at. But don't worry, he'll be back...to grope again.
