On the first day of her overseas tour to Canada it seems that Catherine Middleton
got her fashion inspiration from two unlikely sources; Beckingham Palace, the
mock name for David and Victoria Beckham’s palatial home in Essex, and Downing
Street, home of former Prime Minister Gordon Brown and his wife Sarah and the
present incumbents David and Samantha Cameron.
The former Spice Girl turned fashion designer has worked closely with designer Roland Mouret as her collections have evolved. It was a navy blue Mouret which Catherine wore when she boarded the Canadian Airforce jet to Ottawa. The chic fitted style eminently suited her slim frame and her royal seal of approval is a remarkable turnaround for the couturier who has enjoyed a topsy turvy fashion career.
On the journey over, Catherine, who has been sent samples of fashion queen Victoria’s latest collection, changed into a dress by former Montrealer Erdem Moralioglu. Erdem, who is known as the Prince of Prints, is like Mouret, popular for his careful cut and craftsmanship. His line, simply called Erdem, has been championed by the power elite and is a favourite of Michelle Obama, Sarah Brown and Samantha Cameron, creative director of the stationer to
handbags store, Smythson's.
When Sarah Brown officially launched London Fashion Week a couple of years ago, she wore an Erdem dress, acknowledging a new star in the fashion firmament. "His clothes are so romantic, so otherworldly," said Samantha Cameron, who has collaborated with him to design a limited edition of the Smythson daytimer, a must-have in any stylish woman's 'it' bag.
Seems that Catherine agrees, her choices once again showing that she keeps a weather eye on the world fashion scene.
