You have to give it to Beyonce, she upstaged a pink-haired, cheese-hat wearing Katy Perry, Lady Gaga commandeering Billie Joe Armstrong’s early wardrobe and Britney Spears at last night’s MTV’s VMAs.
Why? Because she chose the VMAs to break her news to the world she was pregnant — and without actually winning an award, she was the most blogged about artist there. Now, that is the REAL talent.
Androgynously dressed in a royal purple tuxedo jacket and high-waisted black tuxedo pants, she came onstage to perform “Love On Top,” and after she as over, she stopped for a dramatic moment, unbuttoned her sequined jacket and rubbed her rather protuberant stomach with a wide grin on her gorgeous face.
Then the cameras cut to her husband of three years, Jay-Z whose body language said it all, egged on by his Watch The Throne collaborator Kayne West.
But that really wasn’t where Beyonce really broke the news. The first reveal was to the cadre of photographers ringing the red carpet. The sleuths at US Weekly wasted no time in contacting her publicist who confirmed the story.
This will be he first child for Beyonce and Jay -Z, but the news shouldn’t come as a complete surprise. Last June in an interview on CNN, she said: “I always said I’d like to have a baby when I’m 30.” That’s a woman who knows her own mind - her 30th birthday is on Sept. 4.
