Monsters, Inc. Prequel Coming Along in 2013

Monsters University hearkens back to main characters' college days

Dawdling along almost 12 years after the release of the hilarious, touching, and exciting animated classic Monsters, Inc., Disney/Pixar just announced that a prequel, Monsters University, will hit theaters in June of 2013.

As I always say when a favorite film is being serialized, I am excited about seeing the great characters and milieu in action once again, I just hope they don't screw it up. Disney/Pixar has certainly come through with the Toy Story series, so I will remain optimistic.

Sulley and Mike.jpgUniversity, which will contain mostly new faces, reunites John Goodman as friendly, furry, but potentially fearsome scare-champ James P. Sullivan, and Billy Crystal as his uni-ocular, orb-like partner and best friend Mike Wazowski. The new film sends the characters back to college days and tells the tale of how Mike and Sulley overcame initial strong antipathy to become BFFs.

Monsters University, directed by Dan Scanlon (Cars - lame) and produced by Kori Rae (Up,The Incredibles, Monsters, Inc. - all fantastic), opens in U.S. theaters on June 21, 2013, and will be shown in Disney Digital 3D wherever they do such things.
