Lauryn Hill Clears Things Up About Her Son's Paternity. Or Does She?

By , Contributor
TV soaps may have been taken off the air, but there’s no absence of drama surrounding the birth of Lauryn Hill’s sixth child last Saturday, July 23. Since her announcement from a Detroit stage last June that she was pregnant, there has been so much controversy that her longtime partner Rohan Marley wasn’t the father—a factor that apparently caused the musician to take up with Brazilian model Isabeli Fontana.

Fed up with all the misinformation, the Grammy-winning chanteuses decided to clear things up by releasing a statement via her reps Twitter account about the status with her relationship with Marley. But did she clear things up? I don't think so, especially since CNN reported that she's referring to her son as "Baby Boy Marley." In the statement below notice the use of “his” child and “my new son, and “our five children together.” Still confused? We are.

“Mr. Marley and I have a long and complex history about which MANY inaccuracies have been reported since the beginning. To speculate without the facts can only cause people to form WRONG conclusions. We both value privacy and for that reason defend and preserve our rights to it. Contrary to numerous reports, Mr. Marley did not abandon me while pregnant with his child. We’ve had long periods of separation over the years but our 5 children together remain a joy to both of us. Thank you for your concern and I appreciate all the well wishes regarding the birth of my new son."

Marley seemed to echo the sentiment in his own tweet:

“I’m forwarding all well wishes to Ms. Hill on the birth of her new son. I’m sure she’ll appreciate the love being sent to her RASTFARI R.M.” No word that he’s sending her his love.

As for the paternity of the baby daddy? Sounds like fodder for a reality show. Stay tuned.
