25-Track Collection Featuring Blind Boy Fuller Scheduled for March

Cited as an influence by the likes of Bob Dylan, Ry Cooder, even Donovan, Blind Boy Fuller helped pave the way for those rock artists that would come afterward.

Our musical history is filled with the bright luminescence of the early pioneers. One of those historic musicians is Blind Boy Fuller who, along with the likes of Robert Johnson, Blind Lemon Jefferson, and an all too unknown cast of bluesmen, was virtually unknown by many except for the range of influence he effectively cast.

While Robert Johnson's work emanated from the Delta region, Blind Boy Fuller did his work on the eastern coast. Although more prolific in his recording than Robert Johnson (Blind Boy Fuller left behind more than 120 recorded tracks), he died at a young age, just as Robert Johnson did. Blind Boy Fuller passed at 33 years of age, the cause thought to be excessive drinking. Life was hard back in the '30s.

Blind Boy Fuller Rough Guide.jpgOn March 30, UK label World Music Network will add to their Rough Guide to the Blues Legends series, which earlier included collections by Blind Lemon Jefferson, Blind Blake, and Blind Willie Johnson to name a few. The new collection is called The Rough Guide to Blues Legends: Blind Boy Fuller - Reborn and Remastered. This new collection features 25 of the best tracks from Blind Boy Fuller including "Get Your Ya-Ya's Out," a title that was used as the name of the 1970 live classic by The Rolling Stones as a nod to Fuller. The set will feature remastered audio and will include a four-page booklet with a two-page essay on the brief history of Blind Boy Fuller. However, it is songs like "Truckin' My Blues Away" and "Mama Let Me Lay It on You" that underscore the beauty of the music of this great bluesman with the excellent guitar arrangements.
