Chris Goodman, a spokesman for Winehouse revealed the 27-year-old singer checked herself into the clinic on her "doctor's advice." It was not clear what course of treatment she'll get at the Priory Clinic. It offers treatment for a range of psychiatric problems, as well as drug and alcohol addiction, and since 2003 had had a treatment program for people who are addicted to texting.
Although Winehouse's 2006 debut Back to Black won her a whopping five Grammy awards, her accomplishments have been overshadowed by her drug use and outrageous public behaviors, even though her father Mitch Winehouse recently assured reporters his daughter had been clean for over two years.
Winehouse has not released much music recently, but she was said to be working on a new album, teaming up with Questlove and Raphael Saddiq, and she did complete a small tour to Brazil in January. She also has a small European tour booked beginning on June 18, and it appears to be the impetus for seeking treatment.
While it is unconfirmed, UK tabloids insisted that Winehouse downed a miniature bottle of Smirnoff vodka in the car en route to the clinic.
