Mac DeMarco: An Artist You Should Know About

DeMarco's wide range of offerings keeps him musically fresh

It's always a great thing to find a new music artist that seems to latch on to your own sensibilities. With today's diluted market of artists, and the wash of availability, it's a wonder that we can actually stumble upon a good artist at all. Still, the internet is a great place of discovery even if it's unable to bestow immense (and deserved) fame anymore on many of these creators of song.

Canadian artist Mac DeMarco, who currently lives in the wilds of New York City, recently released an eight-track mini-album of new songs back in April. The new album, Another One, has already has four singles drawn from it. It's the latest single, "The Way You'd Love Her," that caught my ear and brought me closer to the artist who already has three full-length albums, a handful of live performances sets, another batch of odds and ends tracks, and five EPs in circulation.

Mac DeMarco Another One.jpgAnother One is a short, 23-minute album set that follows on the release of last year's successful Salad Days album.

The musical style of Mac DeMarco is part folk, part jazz, and a mixture of various influences all blended into a mesmerizing rock style. DeMarco's sound is reminiscent of Jonathan Richman, John Lennon, Robbie Robertson, and others that will readily come to mind.

But still, the proof is in the hearing. Click onto the official video of "The Way You'd Love Her", and see if Mac DeMarco doesn't catch your attention. And if it does, you have a lot to backtrack with!
