Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's Class of 2012 Nominations Are In

And once again, we are reminded of a woeful process of remembrance

By , Columnist

Once again, it’s time for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  While I personally feel the whole process is woefully broken, there are things to appreciate about the fact that past heroes get recognized for their greatness.

Today’s nominations include Guns ‘N Roses, Eric B. & Rakim, The Cure, Freddie King, The Spinners, Heart, Rufus w/Chaka Khan, Joan Jett and The Blackhearts (huh?); my personal choice but least likely to be awarded The Small Faces/The Faces; and return nominees in Donovan, Laura Nyro, Red Hot Chili Peppers, WAR, Donna Summer, and The Beastie Boys.

To be nominated, a band or artist need to have released an album (or single) 25 years prior to nomination. With 500 non-essential voters (oh boy…!) in on the selection process instead of real fans, the awarded inductees will take stage on April 14 at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.
