Oh my, if this is true, this is awesome news! Rumors are swirling that former Law & Order: SVU star, the hunky Chris Meloni, may be joining the cast of True Blood next season. The HBO hit show started filming (according to American Horror Story and former True Blood star Denis O'Hare) last week and wraps up in July.
According to sources, Meloni, 50, would portray a powerful vampire, adding star power (and hotness) to an already amazing menagerie of sexy supernatural creatures including Stephen Moyer (vampire and King of Louisiana Bill Compton), Alexander Skarsgaard (vampire and Sheriff Eric Northman), Joe Maganiello (werewolf pack leader Alcide Herveaux). Having played a bi-sexual character on HBO's hit show Oz, Chris should have no trouble fitting into the ever shifting sexuality showcased on True Blood.
True Blood creator Alan Ball seems to know how to appeal to his female audience and adding Meloni to this lineup could bring in a host of new viewers who may not be watching the show (re: older women who like crime dramas). Meloni announced he was leaving SVU last May, and would not be returning for the 2011 season.
In addition to True Blood, Chris is currently filming the new Zack Snyder-directed (300, Sucker Punch) Superman adaptation Man of Steel and comedies Awful Nice and Dirty Movie.
