FOX Announces Fall Primetime TV Season Schedule

FOX unveils a fall schedule filled with new contenders and old reliables.

ZoeyDeschanel's The New Girl

Although the start of the fall television season is over two months away, FOX has already announced its schedule for its returning shows and all-important premieres. Maybe the FOX execs wanted to get a jump on the competition or perhaps they just wanted to get their work out of the way so they could frolic at the beach. Whatever the reason, the information is ours for the perusing.

Kicking off the official start of the season will be the prime-time Emmy awards, airing live on Sunday, September 18 at 8 PM ET. In recent years, the networks haven't fared well in this contest; there's just too much gold on cable these days. It's doubtful this year's Emmys will be much different but, like always, it's sure to be fun to watch.

Terra-Nova.jpgA great deal of hoopla surrounds Terra Nova, a new show whose fanciful premise sounds like Jurassic Park meets H.G. Wells' The Time Machine. Critics who attended an exclusive screening in Los Angeles were sworn to secrecy, so details about the show are scarce. For those intrigued by the ballyhoo, Terra Nova's special two-hour debut will air on September 26 at 8PM ET. The show will make its time period premiere on Oct. 3 at 8PM ET.

Zoey Deschanel's comedy New Girl, premieres Tuesday, September 20 at 9PM ET. From the strength of its star power and writing, it could be a hit out of the box. Its coveted time slot after Glee (which premieres that same night at 8PM) will not hurt its chances at all.

paula-abdul-simon-cowell.jpgThe X Factor, the powerhouse U.K. talent contest Simon Cowell is importing to U.S. shores, will premiere over a two night period: Wednesday, September 21 (8-10 PM ET) and Thursday, September 22 (8-10 PM ET). Yes, cutie Paula Abdul rejoins Cowell for what is sure to be a merry old time. FOX has high hopes for this show, and with Sony offering a five million dollar recording contract to the winner, the competition is sure to get fierce.

allen-gregory-Fox.jpgAllen Gregory, the newest addition to FOX's Sunday Animation Domination block, will premiere October 30 at 8:30 PM ET, while the premiere of the new sitcom I Hate My Teenage Daughter has been set for November 23 at 9:30 PM ET; its late arrival almost makes it seem like an afterthought. However, the show is scheduled to follow The X Factor, so perhaps it will endure.

Get out those calendars and pencils because here is the complete FOX fall schedule in chronological order.
