This Larry David is a socially inept, fabulously wealthy dolt, who may act like he cares about his friends and their situations but only truly cares about himself. Being self-absorbed gets him into all kinds of trouble. But not to worry. At the end of each episode, he manages to wheedle his way out of whatever predicament he's gotten himself into. Such is the power of a cockeyed grin, money, and his firm belief he is always right.
Will the eighth season of Enthusiasm offer fans anything different from the discomfiting strangeness we're used to? Will David's long-suffering wife Cheryl really be divorcing him? If we can take a clue from the title of the eighth season premiere ("The Divorce"), the most likely answer is yes. Later in the season, David learns his lawyer isn't kosher, becomes an unlikely role model for battered women, and vows to topple a secret dating taboo.
We can also look forward to a change of scene when Enthusiasm travels from Los Angeles to New York City for part of the season. Series veterans Jeff Garlin, Susie Essman, Richard Lewis, Rosie O'Donnell, and Wanda Sykes return, while Gary Cole, Michael J. Fox, Ricky Gervais, and Jo Anne Worley make their first appearances on the show.
If you're a fan of David and his left of normal adventures, you can revel in the fact that much more is in store. If you've never given Curb Your Enthusiasm a chance, you owe it to yourself to mark July 10 on your calendar and tune in. David's genius for making socially awkward situations funny is not for everyone but it might just make you laugh harder than you have for a long time.
Curb Your Enthusiasm's eighth season premieres on Sunday, July 10 at 10 PM ET on HBO.
