Nickelodeon Gets Nostalgic with The 90s Are All That

By , Contributor
If you’re a young person born somewhere between the late '70s and early '80s, you probably had a memorable childhood. While video games were booming and movies like Jurassic Park made you believe dinosaurs were once again roaming Earth, your best memories likely involve watching an endless amount of kid-friendly entertainment on TV.

And if you were a kid in the 1990s, Nickelodeon was easily your go-to channel.

Who doesn’t remember the multi-colored characters of Doug, the Twilight Zone-inspired series Are You Afraid of the Dark or the two oddball brothers with the same name in The Adventures of Pete & Pete?

Nickelodeon knows you're jonesing for a good ‘90s childhood fix, so beginning on July 25, you’ll be able to go back to the future—safely from the confines of your own home. Airing on Teen Nick between the hours of 12 am and 4 am, Nickelodeon will showcase a block of “old school” kids programming in a four-hour block of TV entitled The ‘90s Are All That.

Airing Monday through Friday, you’ll be able to relive your childhood by watching Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell channel their inner Ralph Kramden and Edward Norton on Kenan & Kel, check out the American Gladiators-inspired sports competition series Guts, and witness a young Melissa Joan Hart break the fourth wall on the series Clarissa Explains It All.

Thanks to the Internet, young people across the country poured their hearts out on message boards and created Facebook petitions in an effort to coax Nickelodeon into bringing back some of their most popular ‘90s sitcoms. And while Nick has obliged to a small degree in the past (shows such as Clarissa Explains It All and Pete & Pete have hit DVD, and Hey Dude gets released this week), it wasn’t enough to satisfy the diverse tastes of an entire generation raised on green slime and Stick Stickly.

So make sure to drink lots of coffee, order up some Good Burger, and double check that the payments to your cable providers are up to date.  Because come July 25, you’ll be barreling down a nostalgic rabbit hole that’ll have you screaming Aaahh!!! Real Monsters.

Here’s what you can expect to see over the next few weeks on The ‘90s Are All That:
