Star Trek Into Darkness is one of the UHD movies in the upcoming Video Pack.
Paramount Pictures and Samsung Electronics have announced a deal to promote ultra high definition (UHD) televisions.
Their joint plug comes in the form of a UHD Video Pack that includes the blockbuster movies Star Trek (2009), Star Trek Into Darkness, World War Z, G.I. Joe: Retaliation and Forrest Gump.
"We are delighted to work with Samsung to showcase the sensational capabilities of their UHD TVs," Amy Reinhard, executive vice president and general manager of Paramount Home Media Distribution, said in a press release. "This is a terrific opportunity for consumers to truly experience the superior picture quality of UHD with some of our most popular films."
The Video Pack is scheduled to come online in the spring for owners of compatible Samsung UHD TV sets. Additional content is expected to follow later.
"Paramount Pictures is the gateway to many of the best films of our time," said Kyungshik Lee, Senior Vice President of the Service Strategy Team of Visual Display Business, Samsung Electronics. "We are excited to deliver these memorable films to our UHD TV customers, giving them the chance to rediscover their favorite scenes with stunning clarity."
Ultra high definition televisions have a resolution of at least 3840x2160 pixels. Most high definition televisions currently in homes are confusingly considered to be Full HD, which means they have a resolution of only 1920x1080 pixels.
