A host of media personalities, including several stars of popular sci-fi series, are getting ready to party in Vancouver on September 24th in support of a campaign to find a cure for Hunter Syndrome.

On that date the Sutton Hotel in downtown Vancouver will host the Alice in Wonderland-themed 1st Annual Once Upon a Cure Gala for Hunter Syndrome Research. Among the special guests will be names familiar to fans of Eureka, Sanctuary, Smallville and Stargate, including Amanda Tapping, Colin Ferguson, Peter De Luise, Lou Diamond Phillips, Ryan Robbins, Elyse Levesque, Peter Kelamis, Paul McGillion, Julia Benson and Allison Mack. There will also be musical performances by DJ Flip Out, Will Blunderfield and DiRTY RADiO.

Hunter Syndrome (a.k.a. MPS II) is a rare degenerative genetic disorder in children. It leads to a variety of symptoms that get progressively worse as a child ages. Historically children afflicted with the condition have not survived beyond their early teenage years. New treatments are showing promise, however, and recently a seven year-old boy from North Vancouver became the first child in Canada to receive a new trial drug.

Several stars have been promoting the event on Twitter. Anyone can buy tickets for the gala from the event's website. They cost $250 individually or $1900 for eight. Information can also be obtained from the Gala’s Twitter feed @onceuponacure.
