HBO's Innovative App Lets Viewers Watch Their Favorite Shows On the Go

Could the free HBOGO app be a trendsetter?

By , Columnist
For HBO subscribers who own a computer, iPhone, iPad, or Android device, HBOGO is an absolute must-have. It's a free app that not only allows you to access HBO programming wherever you go (as long as you have 3G or wi-fi access), but enables you to view HBO programming not currently on the main channel. If you're like I am and don't always remember a) when certain shows air, or b) to set your DVR to catch those shows, this app is invaluable.

For example, you can access every season of shows like Curb Your Enthusiasm, Big Love, and The Sopranos. So if you missed that monumental episode your friends were raving about, you can catch up on the app. More recent offerings such as Boardwalk Empire and Game of Thrones are here too.

Coincidentally, just in time for True Blood's fourth season premiere, HBO is offering fans of the show a rare treat: a chance to watch episode two of the new season immediately following the June 26 premiere. The catch is, it will only be available on the HBOGO app.

The episode, entitled "You Smell Like Dinner" will be available a week early on HBOGO, and will remain on the app throughout the week until episode three premieres on July 3. How can you resist?

In order to access HBOGO, head on over to or download the app to your Apple or Android device. You'll then be asked to sign in with the screen name and password you created through your participating television provider. After that, you're in.

With HBOGO and HBO's other free online service, HBO CONNECT, the channel seems to have an excellent handle on how to please their customers. Hopefully premium channels like SHOWTIME will follow HBO's innovative lead and reward subscribers by making their programming available virtually anywhere, as well.
