Paul McCartney returns after 40 years to a completely DIY ethic with this "recorded in rockdown" (mostly) collection of new material. The music gleams with inventive touches and heartfelt sentiments, adding another late-career gem to McCartney's catalog.
Chalk it up to another victory for Paul McCartney with this 13th entry in his long-running Archive Collection. This is one of his finest hours and it deserves this kind of extravagant package. Demos, outtakes, B-sides, video content, and extensive liner notes abound.
While the bonus tracks aren't as engrossing or revelatory as the previous two superdeluxe Beatles boxes, and the rewriting of history continues with Giles Martin's authorized remixes, there's still plenty to like about this release.
