Billy Corgan Takes His Retooled Pumpkins On a Short US Tour

Who will watch Billy's new dogs?

Just like Rancid, the retooled Smashing Pumpkins will take to the road for a small 12-city U.S. tour this fall that will serve as their warm-up for a massive tour next year. The band—which, besides frontman Billy Corgan, includes guitarist Jeff Schroeder, drummer Mike Byrne, and bassist Nicole Fiorentino—will kick off their tour at Los Angeles’s Wiltern Theatre, and then end up in Philadelphia on October 22 at the Tower Theatre.

According to Corgan’s rep, the band will perform a few songs from the Pumpkins' upcoming album Oceania, now due out in early 2012, as well as some of their best loved hits and some surprises and covers. And no, not just because EMI records is reissuing Pisces Iscariot, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, Adore, and their box set The Aeroplane Flies High next year.

The Pumpkins have tapped support acts Fancy Space People and Light FM, the band Fiorentino was in before she joined the Pumpkins, and not Jane’s Addiction, despite that Corgan enthused about wanting to tour with them last month on Twitter. Maybe he’ll try to get them for the massive tour he plans after the release of Oceania. One thing we know is My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way would be happy to support Corgan in any way he could. The two have been having a rather public bromance for the past few years, and even have their own Facebook group called “Does Gerard Way Look Like Billy Corgan."

Earlier this month Way gushed that when met when he met Corgan he was speechless. “I kinda nerd out around him, I can't really say a lot to the guy,” revealed Way. But luckily Corgan is never at a loss for words. He came over to the Chem Romance singer and introduced himself. “He saw that I spotted him and he came and introduced himself 'cos he saw that I was too nervous to do it. I just said, 'You're basically my hero, and you're one of the biggest influences to me and my kid brother, it's the reason we have this band.'"

Maybe Way would consider watching Corgan's new dogs while he's gone. On Tuesday, the Pumpkin head told fans via Twitter about his two new pooches: a pair of chocolate labs with Sharpei mix that are rather fierce. Just like their owner?

[V]ery aggressive! Chin Chin and Ling Ling. they get on with the cats though...NO ONE told me not to get two girl dawgs from the same litter until after I got them. NOW I know why! There is a reason they call 'em #* ...
