While it’s a little early to be thinking about Christmas, this is something you might want to save for. Sony Legacy is releasing a box set titled 15 Minutes: Homage To Andy Warhol, to coincide with what would be Warhol’s 83rd (!) birthday.

Eighteen of Warhol’s highest profile friends, colleagues, and fans, including Bob Dylan, Patti Smith, Billy Name, Yura Adams, Connie Beckley, Brigid Berlin & Vincent Fremont, Susan Breen, Nat Finkelstein, John Giorno, Jeff Gordon, Alexander Heinrici, Ivan Karp, Christopher Makos, Carter Ratcliff, Path Soong, Ultra Violet, and Lawrence Weiner, have come together to celebrate Warhol’s utterly fabulous public life, each of them with the exception of Ivan Karp contributing a unique work of their  own art to honor the late icon which that will be rendered as a 12” x 12” print included in box.

In addition, every one of the participants have recorded an audio remembrance, be it poetry, spoken word, music or just reminiscences about the great platinum-haired visionary, which will be on three CDs, and repeated on four vinyl LPs, both included in the very elegant package.

dylan-self.jpgWe know you want to know what Dylan is contributing, so here’s the info: It’s the cover of his 1970 album Self Portrait, painted by the great man, and the track is “When I Paint My Masterpiece,” recorded in 1971 and first making its appearance on Bob Dylan’s Greatest Hits, Vol 2.

Now the sobering news. The deluxe version of 15 Minutes: Homage To Andy Warhol is strictly limited to 85 copies worldwide, and will retail for $20,000. The set contains four vinyl records, three CDs, liner notes, artist photos, and sixteen 12” x 12” silkscreen prints, each of which are numbered, signed or stamped by their creator(s), and silk screened by Warhol’s master silkscreener, Alexander Heinrici.

Slightly more do-able is the standard version of 15 which will be limited to 1,964 copies worldwide, and will retail for $600. The set contains four vinyl records, three CDs, liner notes, artist photos, and sixteen 12” x 12” color offset lithographs of each artwork. While Legacy doesn’t have layaway, you can pre-order at Fifteen Minutes. Act now, because they’ll be much more expensive on eBay a year from now.
