Flesk Publications announced the imminent arrival of a new addition to their line of fine art books earlier today. This new title, Flesk Prime, will debut on July 20th at the Comic-Con International: San Diego and will only be available at the Flesk booth (#5019) during that convention or directly from the publisher, via its online store, thereafter.
Flesk Prime is a full-color hardcover that showcases the personal best by five of the foremost illustrators working in the field today - Craig Elliott, Gary Gianni, Petar Meseldzija, Mark Schultz, and William Stout. Each of these artists is a star in their own right, and they are collectively renowned for their craftsmanship, attention to detail and uncanny ability to breathe fresh life into even the most mundane of subjects.
The book is broken down into sections, each of which focuses on one specific artist and features artwork that was handpicked by the artists themselves. These pieces range from sketches and preliminary studies to finished pencils and oil paintings, and are accompanied by an opening introduction and creator biography by publisher John Fleskes, as well as original commentary by the artists.
As is typical of every Flesk release, the publisher has paid the utmost attention to quality of presentation and reproduction. The majority of the work in Flesk Prime has been scanned from the original art at high resolution, while every page of every book has been printed to the most exacting of standards. The result is a book that captures with an astonishing clarity the lightest of penciled lines and the smallest detail of individual brushstrokes.
As far as specific content, Craig Elliott’s chapter contains a wealth of fine art, much of it featuring the female form, along with examples of editorial assignments and even a behind-the-scenes look at his creative process.
Gary Gianni has chosen to include oil paintings and pen-and-ink drawings, pages of comic book art and a Sunday newspaper strip, as well as spot illustrations for books that he’s created over the course of the past two decades.
Images of dragons and giants, warriors and maidens, and other fantastic creatures populate the section on Petar Meseldzija, whose graphite drawings and lush canvases in oil have all completed in the past year.
Mark Schultz presents a wide array of both blue-line and pencil studies from his personal sketchbooks, along with a pair of brush-and-ink covers from his award-winning Xenozoic series.
Finally, oil paintings of prehistoric creatures and dinosaurs fill the pages dedicated to the work of William Stout, accompanied by a monstrous zombie, pen-and-ink comic book pages and record cover art.
Flesk Prime (ISBN: 978-1-933865-38-6) is a 64 page, 8.5 by 11 inch hardcover book with a dust jacket that has a $24.95 cover price.
Those lucky souls who are attending the San Diego con will be happy to learn that Elliot, Gianni, Schultz and Stout will be on hand to sign copies during the show. Readers who are unable to attend this convention can preorder Flesk Prime directly from the publisher now, knowing that those copies will begin shipping on the 26th of July.
