Andrew Tours the Princess Diana Exhibit in Toronto

Our illustrious leader-in-chief, Andrew Morton, is in Canada doing publicity for his new book, William and Catherine: Their Story and took some time to tour the Princess Diana exhibit at Canada's National Design Centre and Museum in Toronto.

The exhibit showcases 14 evening dresses from the collection of the late Diana, Princess of Wales and runs May 17-June 10. This is the last opportunity to view the exhibit, "The Life of a Royal Icon," before the gowns will be auctioned by Toronto's auction house, Waddington's, on June 23.  From the Design Exchange's official press release:

JRKM_0520_001.jpgThe evening gown collection is owned by Tampa Bay resident Maureen Rorech Dunkel, who purchased the dresses anonymously at a glittering Christie's auction in New York in 1997, to raise money for Diana's humanitarian causes in the United States and United Kingdom. Two months later the Princess was tragically killed in a car accident. Dunkel reportedly paid $700,000 US for 14 of Diana's best known evening gowns.

The late Diana, Princess of Wales, was the most photographed woman in the world, and her dresses highlight numerous official engagements events that helped establish her as one of the 20th century's most loved style icons.

Highlights of the Dunkel collection include the dress Diana wore at the White House State dinner given by President and Mrs. Reagan when she danced with actor John Travolta, three dresses that Diana wore during her famous 1997 Mario Testino photo shoot for a Vanity Fair Magazine feature article, as well as several dresses that were created for specific state occasions, and a dress that Diana wore for one of her official portraits.

The collection features dresses by prominent British designers Victor Edelstein, Bruce Oldfield, Zandra Rhodes and the Princess' beloved designer Catherine Walker.

Following the exhibition at the Design Exchange, the general public is invited to attend the auction preview from June 21 - 23, followed by the auction at 7:00 p.m. on June 23. For more information about Waddington's log on to
