For several years, Elvis Presley fans have been given a steady diet of remastered and expanded Elvis titles via the fine folks at Legacy Recordings. His is a rich catalog that tells us much about the birth of rock and roll and its progressing years, leading all too soon to Elvis' death in 1977. While the title of the King of Rock and Roll might be too liberally bestowed, it is certainly fitting to note that Elvis Presley was an integral part of the expansive phenomenon of rock.
On September 27, RCA and Legacy will
release an important box collection of remastered Elvis Presley music
released during the pivotal year of 1956 that gave birth to the
burgeoning Elvis mania that followed. The box set, called Young Man
With The Big Beat, will feature an incredible amount of Elvis magic.
The box set will contain five completely crammed discs that start with his RCA albums, Elvis, and Elvis Presley. On those two CDs reside the two previously mentioned Presley classics. The first album, Elvis Presley, is augmented by five extra tracks, non-album A and B-sides, and EP tracks. The second disc contains the full Elvis album along with ten bonus non-album A and B-sides, and EP tracks.
The third CD in the box is complete with remastered live recordings from various locations that include Las Vegas, Little Rock, and Shreveport, 21 performance tracks in all. Disc four is a wealth of outtakes from the early sessions that include 27 unused tracks including a day's session work with 11 takes of "Lawdy, Miss Clawdy," and 12 takes of "Shake, Rattle and Roll." The fifth CD is filled with interviews and two RCA radio ads, with an entire interview by Robert Brown in New York City.
To complete the magnificent Young Man With The Big Beat, Legacy packs in five rare 8x10 photos, five original-size poster replications, and a replica concert ticket stub. The booklet is a wonder unto itself. It's 80 pages of photos, memorabilia, and a day-by day recollection of Elvis's year of 1956, the focal point of Young Man With The Big Beat.
If, by some chance, you're overwhelmed by this collection of Presley goodness, you can opt for a lower-cost two-CD Legacy Edition that supplies the same content as found on disc one and two of the set, that is to say Elvis' two 1956 treasures, Elvis and Elvis Presley, with the accompanying bonus tracks. In the Legacy Edition, an accompanying booklet, while not as extravagant as the box booklet, will contain new liner notes, as well as photos and memorabilia shots.
Want your box? Pre-orders will receive an exclusive 7" vinyl replica of Elvis' first RCA 45RPM EP but you'll have to order exclusively through the offficial website to take advantage of this bonus.
